About Us

Who We Are

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church has a long history of serving Blount County. As the only Episcopal Church in the county, Saint Andrew’s has grown from twenty congregants at its first meeting in 1923 to over 200 today.

We are a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee, a member of the Episcopal Church USA, and belong to the fellowship of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

What We Believe

We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As Episcopalians, we try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection are our hope for salvation.

We are a church of inclusion with the firm belief that God loves you - no exceptions.

We see our faith most clearly as a way of life and as a matter of practice, rather than of doctrine. Our Anglican theology honors scripture, tradition, and the rich complexity of each person.
The Rev. Sean McEwen
Curate

Fr. Sean came to St. Andrew’s in June of 2024 from the School of Theology at Sewanee, where he received a Master of Divinity. He also holds degrees in History and Religious Studies, and previously served in the Diocese of East Tennessee as a Catechist and Lay Preacher before attending seminary.

Raised in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Sean found his spiritual home in the Episcopal Church as a young adult, where he fell in love with the liturgy and its message of Christ’s radical welcome. He is passionate about equipping the saints for ministry as we seek to live as Christ’s Body in the world.

In addition to his parish ministry, Sean serves on the diocesan Bishop & Council (2024–2027), is a member of the Task Force on Christian Formation, and has served as a deputy to General Convention.

A Chattanooga native, Sean and his husband, Lance, are delighted to be back home in beautiful East Tennessee.

Cecilia Batson
Office Manager/Chaos Coordinator

Cecilia has lived in Blount County all of her life, and attended Alcoa City Schools.  She defines herself as a walking pop culture reference held together by chaos, coffee, and chocolate. Cecilia now lives in Louisville with her chaotically brilliant daughter Sarah, her chaotically dorky partner Jessie, 2 cats, a dog, and a leopard gecko. The humans and pets are currently competing for room with all of Cecilia’s books, and entirely too much Star Wars memorabilia.
